WAREG Strategic Planning Workshop 2025

Date: 8 January 2025

The WAREG 2025 Strategic Planning Workshop, held on 8 January 2025 at Dewan Seri Seroja 1, Hotel Seri Malaysia, Kangar, Perlis, brought together a dynamic group of 35 Research Fellows, 5 Associate Fellows, and 7 members. The workshop served as a crucial platform for aligning goals, reviewing research directions, and charting the strategic roadmap for 2025 and beyond. Through focused discussions and collaborative planning, the participants contributed valuable insights to strengthen WAREG’s role in advancing impactful, multidisciplinary research across key thematic areas.

Mentor-Mentee Sharing Session, Series 1/2025

In conjunction with the Research & Innovation Excellence Month, WAREG successfully hosted the Mentor Mentee WAREG Sharing Session Series 1/2025 on 11 March 2025 at Bilik Seminar Dragon, Pusat Pengajian Jejawi 3, UniMAP. The session, attended by WAREG Research Fellows and postgraduate students, focused on two key topics:

1.     Copyright Registration Procedures (MyIPO), and

2.     Guidelines for Kurita Asia Research Grant (KARG) Application.

The sharing aimed to empower participants with practical knowledge and strategies to enhance success in securing research grants and registering intellectual property.

The Expert Talk Series 1/2025

Held on 21 March 2025, The Expert Talk Series 1/2025 was organized in conjunction with UniMAP’s Research and Innovation Excellence Month 2025 and World Water Day 2025. The event, hosted by WAREG, featured a thought-provoking webinar titled:

“Empowering Local Solutions for Water Security: Enhancing Malaysia’s Resilience and Sustainability”

The session was delivered by Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Fadhil Md Din, Director of UTM Campus Sustainability (UTMCS). It brought together staff and students to explore innovative, localised approaches to addressing water security challenges in Malaysia, fostering awareness and proactive solutions in line with national sustainability goals.

 

The Expert Talk Series 2/2025

Date : 23 June 2025

On 23 June 2025, WAREG successfully hosted The Expert Talk Series 2/2025 through an engaging webinar titled:

“Sustainable Pavement Design: Materials, Methods and Environmental Considerations”

The session was delivered by Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohd Ezree Abdullah from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The talk focused on innovative and eco-friendly approaches in pavement engineering, highlighting sustainable materials, advanced design methods, and their environmental implications. The session aimed to foster awareness and knowledge sharing in support of sustainable infrastructure development.

 

1st International UNESCO Water Watch for Young Leaders Camp (WWP4YL) 2025

Date: 20-22 May 2025

Three WAREG Research Fellows played an active role in the 1st International UNESCO Water Watch for Young Leaders Camp (WWP4YL) 2025, held from 20–22 May 2025. The camp was organized by UNESCO-IHP Malaysia, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) Malaysia, the Malaysian National Commission for UNESCO (SKUM), and Putrajaya Corporation (PPj).

The fellows served as instructors, delivering modules focused on water conservation and environmental sustainability. The programme brought together 81 young leaders and 22 teachers from 21 schools, including 4 international schools, offering a holistic environmental education experience. Activities included site exploration at Putrajaya Wetlands Park, technical sessions, and interactive science learning led by field experts.

Program Kembara Ilmu KESSA 2025: Langkah Biru, Harapan Hijau

Date: 21-22 June 2025

On 21–22 June 2025, WAREG Research Fellows participated in the KESSA 2025: Langkah Biru, Harapan Hijau programme, organized by the Disaster Management Institute (DMI), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), in collaboration with the Water Resources and Hydrology Management Division (BPSAH) under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) Malaysia.

WAREG Research Fellows were invited as instructors to lead modules on water conservation and environmental sustainability. The programme engaged 178 students from Raja Perempuan Kelsom Secondary School and Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) through a holistic environmental education platform.

Activities included the "Jejak Air Lestari" Explorace, featuring six interactive modules delivered by experts, providing a hands-on learning experience in sustainable water management.
